Guwahati, May 11 (IANS). Former Union Minister and newly elected BJP MLA Rameshwar Teli on Monday expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister nominee Himanta Biswa Sarma. He expressed this gratitude when his name was announced for inclusion in the new Assam cabinet. He said he would continue to work for the development of all sections of the society and the state.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Teli said Tuesday would be a historic one for Assam, as many top national leaders would attend the event. I thank the Chief Minister for giving me this responsibility. Tomorrow will be a historic day in the political journey of Assam, as PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Chief Ministers and Union Ministers will attend the event.
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, who won the Duliajan assembly seat in the recently concluded Assam assembly elections, is set to take oath as a cabinet minister on Tuesday.
Himanta Biswa Sarma announced his inclusion in the Council of Ministers on Monday.
Teli said he is committed to serving the people of Assam and will continue to work for every community in the state. First of all, I am an Assamese. Wherever I have worked, I have always tried to serve the people with complete honesty. I have worked for all communities and tribes and will continue to do so in future also.
Teli, who has previously been a Union Minister of State in the Modi government, is considered an influential BJP leader from Upper Assam. He enjoys tremendous support in tea plantation areas and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government will be held on Tuesday at the grounds of the Veterinary College in Khanapara on the outskirts of Guwahati. PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and several NDA Chief Ministers are expected to attend the event.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won a landslide victory in the Assam assembly elections and won 102 seats in the 126-member assembly. The BJP won 82 seats, while alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front won 10 seats each.
