Congress and Left parties attack on removal of Sonam Wangchuk, say – Government is suppressing the voice of democracy

सोनम वांगचुक को हटाने पर कांग्रेस और वाम दलों का हमला, बोले- लोकतंत्र की आवाज दबा रही है सरकार

New Delhi, July 18 (IANS). Political controversy has intensified over the hospitalization of educationist and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk by Delhi Police. Congress leaders, social workers and left parties have strongly criticized the central government, calling this action an attack on democracy.

Congress Rajya Sabha member Imran Pratapgarhi told IANS that this is an attempt to crush democracy. This is very sad. Every person in this country has the right to protest peacefully. Instead of talking to the person who had been on hunger strike for so many days, the government forcibly took him away. This is extremely unfortunate.

At the same time, Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput said in Lucknow that the BJP government has crossed all limits of insensitivity. He alleged that instead of accepting the legitimate demands of a person, the government is forcibly removing him through the police and lathi-charging the students.

He said, “Even the British had not adopted the kind of dictatorial attitude that the BJP has adopted. Congress has always respected the voice of protest. When Anna Hazare was sitting on a fast, we did not lathicharge him, but ended his fast by accepting his demands.

Surendra Rajput raised the question and said, “What is Sonam Wangchuk demanding? What is the demand of Congress? Resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Political activist Yogendra Yadav also strongly condemned the action of Delhi Police. He said, “This action is shameful, cowardly and illegal. The government may have taken away Sonam Wangchuk from here, but it cannot break the spirit of the youth and students. The youth have decided that their struggle will continue. Now Abhijit Dipke has taken the responsibility of the fast. The government thinks that this will stop the Parliament march on July 20, but the youth have decided that the Parliament march will take place at any cost.”

On the other hand, senior CPI(M) leader Vrinda Karat also made a scathing attack on the central government. He said that the way Sonam Wangchuk was forcibly taken away from there, the question arises whether dictatorship will prevail in the country instead of the Constitution.

He alleged that this entire action is being taken on the instructions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Vrinda Karat warned that now the process of hunger strike will continue across the country.
