Congress leadership lacks the enthusiasm to form government on its own, lack of mandate till now is Rahul's failure: Sharmistha Mukherjee

New Delhi, June 28 (IANS). Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, has raised serious questions on the Congress leadership. He said that the Congress high command does not seem to have the enthusiasm to form the government on its own. Along with this, Sharmistha also gave a sharp reaction against Rahul Gandhi.

Talking to news agency IANS, Sharmistha Mukherjee said about the 2029 elections, “I would not like to make political speculations at all. Congress won 99 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi had done ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and it got a good result. The unfortunate thing is that Rahul Gandhi does some programs, but after that he disappears again.”

He further said, “Politics is a 24-hour, 365-day job. You come and go somewhere after two days. Do a few rallies and meet people, then disappear. Politics is not done like this. Apart from the general elections, there are also state elections. You cannot win just by forming an alliance.”

The daughter of senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee also said that it is very important for Congress to strengthen its organization. I have also worked in Congress for some days. I think the thinking of Congress is to form a government by forming a coalition, but Congress should strengthen its organization and form the government on its own. However, this enthusiasm is not visible in the Congress high command.

Sharmistha Mukherjee said, “This mentality that you will win only because of others does not seem right to me. Congress should come into the field on its own and the organization should have its own strategy. The strategy of running with a gun on the other shoulder is not right.”

Meanwhile, on the comparison between Prime Minister Modi and Rahul Gandhi, she said, “I would not like to make any comparison between Rahul Gandhi and PM Narendra Modi, because that comparison would be wrong somewhere. Rahul Gandhi is the face of Congress since 2014. Under his leadership, the Congress party is continuously losing elections except in a few states. Therefore, it is not right to make comparisons.”

Sharmistha Mukherjee said that PM Narendra Modi is a popular leader and his popularity is reflected in the mandate. Rahul Gandhi is not able to get that mandate for himself and the Congress Party. This is a big failure of his.
