Mumbai, December 5 (IANS). Senior Congress Party leader Hussain Dalwai has raised questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifting ‘Shrimad Bhagavad Gita’ to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said that politics of religion should not be brought into this. If brought then Quran Sharif, Bible and Guru Granth Sahib should also have been given.
Congress leader Hussain Dalwai, while talking to news agency IANS, said, “What is the purpose of gifting ‘Shrimad Bhagwad Gita’ to him (Russian President Putin)? I did not understand that. I will not say much on this, but along with ‘Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta’, Quran Sharif, Bible and Guru Granth Sahib should also have been given to him. Along with Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta, he should have been given Mahabharata. Should have also given the book.”
Referring to the Ukraine war, the Congress leader said, “Russia has killed many people. Perhaps the Prime Minister might have presented Srimad Bhagavad Gita to President Putin for the purpose of thinking about it.”
On Russian President Putin’s visit to India, the Congress leader said, “Since the time of Nehru, India has worked to maintain strong relations with Russia. Indira Gandhi had also signed a treaty with Russia. When there was a war with Pakistan over Bangladesh, Russia had helped India. This friendship has been going on since before. Those relations are getting stronger, so it is a very good thing.”
Meanwhile, Hussain Dalwai said on Humayun Kabir’s statement on ‘Babri Masjid’ on December 6, “It was done deliberately.”
He also claimed that Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Day is celebrated across the country. To reduce the importance of this day, the demolition of the mosque was carried out on 6 December.
