New Delhi, June 16 (IANS). BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala reacted sharply to the comments made by Congress leaders regarding the registration of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He alleged that the opposition has been targeting the RSS for political reasons for a long time and baseless allegations are being made against the organization. Along with this, he also reacted to the recent statement of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding Indi alliance and described the opposition parties as motivated by political opportunism.
Responding to the Congress leader’s comment regarding the registration of RSS, Shehzad Poonawala said that Congress leaders do not have adequate knowledge of the law. He said that Priyank Kharge is Rahul Gandhi of Karnataka. Just as Rahul Gandhi makes wild allegations against RSS, similarly Priyank Kharge also keeps making such statements to score political points. If the Congress really believed that the RSS was involved in some kind of illegal activities, it could have been banned during their government at the Center from 2004 to 2014. There is no mandatory registration requirement for the RSS under the Constitution or law. There is no provision in the law of the country that registration of the organization is mandatory.
Poonawala claimed that various organizations associated with RSS are duly registered and working in social sectors. He said that organizations like Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Seva Bharati, Vidya Bharati and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh are active in their respective areas and follow legal procedures. He said that the opposition does not raise the issue of registration of other organizations. Poonawala said that Congress has been doing politics against RSS for decades, but it did not get any political benefit from it. He also claimed that various national leaders have appreciated the work of RSS from time to time.
At the same time, reacting to the statement of Indi Alliance and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the BJP spokesperson raised questions on the unity of the opposition parties. He said there is a lack of ideological clarity among the opposition parties and their alliance is based only on political interests. Poonawala said that the parties of Akhilesh Yadav, Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi do politics of the same vote bank. When they have political needs, they come together and when they feel that fighting separately would be beneficial, they start making statements against each other.
He alleged that the opposition parties give priority to vote bank politics instead of issues. There have been several public differences between the parties of the Indi alliance, making it clear that their alliance is based on circumstances rather than permanent ideology. Poonawala further said that the incidents of differences between the opposition parties from time to time and then changing the equation show that their political agenda is driven by opportunism. He claimed that the public has understood the reality of such alliances and is giving priority to the politics of development and good governance.
