New Delhi, May 29 (IANS). Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its protest against the government regarding the increasing heat and water shortage in Delhi. On Friday, AAP workers and local residents of Kondli Assembly constituency, under the leadership of MLA Kuldeep Kumar, staged a massive ‘Matka breaking’ protest outside the Delhi Jal Board office in Mayur Vihar Phase-2.
During the demonstration, people raised slogans against the government and demanded a solution to the water problem. A large number of women and local people reached the protest with empty pots in their hands. People raised slogans and expressed their anger against the government.
The protesters registered their protest by breaking pots outside the Jal Board office. On this occasion, MLA Kuldeep Kumar targeted the government and said that despite having a four-engine government in Delhi, the people are not getting enough water.
He said that people are worried about water in the scorching heat, while the Chief Minister and ministers are sitting in AC rooms. He alleged that the government has not yet shown seriousness about the water problem nor visited the affected areas.
Kuldeep Kumar said that there is a serious water crisis in many areas of Delhi including his assembly. He claimed that about 40 percent of Delhi’s population is suffering from water shortage, but the government is only making false claims.
He said that during the elections, BJP had promised to provide better facilities to the people of Delhi through double engine government, but now the situation has become worse. He alleged that many UGRs of Delhi Jal Board are lying vacant and people are not getting regular water.
He said that rich people can buy water, but poor families are facing the problem of drinking water. The MLA also said that a wrong report regarding the water situation has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the protest, MLAs and workers also reached inside the Jal Board office and tried to fill water in pots, but were stopped by the police. After this the angry protesters broke the pots there.
Heavy police force and barricading was arranged at the spot. Kuldeep Kumar warned that if the water problem is not resolved soon, the people of Kondli will surround the house of Minister Pravesh Verma.
