New Delhi, April 18 (IANS). Vijay Singh, father of former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, died on Friday. His last rites were performed on Saturday at the Lodhi Road cremation ground in Delhi.
The funeral was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, other senior leaders of AAP and BJP and a large number of others.
It is being told that Atishi’s father Vijay Singh was suffering from various diseases for a long time.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi’s father Prof. Extremely saddened by the demise of Vijay Singh. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with Atishi and her family. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace. We pray to God that the bereaved family gets the strength to bear this immense loss.
On the demise of Atishi’s father, AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that Atishi’s father was suffering from serious illnesses for the last 3-4 months. He passed away yesterday. Today for his funeral, you can see what a large number of people have gathered here. He was a professor at DU, and was very popular among teachers and students when he was a professor. He was considered a very well-known educationist. Everyone is deeply saddened by his demise. May his soul rest in peace.
AAP leader Somnath Bharti said that Aam Aadmi Party is a family. Whenever any such unfortunate incident happens in the family of any member, we all feel sad. Today you can see that AAP chief and every member is present here and standing with Atishi and his entire family.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that the news of the demise of Vijay Singh, father of former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, is very sad. He dedicated his entire life to a society based on education and values.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that may God rest his soul at his feet.
