Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Friday said he does not want to appear “greedy” by demanding the post of Deputy Chief Minister. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allocating two posts to his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in the new Bihar cabinet.
Addressing a press conference in Patna, Paswan also said that he wants to expand the party beyond Bihar to states like West Bengal, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as an NDA ally.
He said, “Out of the 29 seats given to us under the seat sharing within the NDA, our party won 19 seats. We contested on seats which were considered weak for the alliance. This was possible because of the blessings of the people and the Prime Minister’s support to our party.”
The Union Minister said, “Now, LJP (RV) has been given two posts in the new cabinet in Bihar… This is too much. How much more greedy can Chirag Paswan be?”
NDA returned to power in Bihar by winning 202 seats in the 243-member assembly, in which BJP got 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5 and RLM 4 seats.
Speaking on the post of Deputy CM, Chirag said, “In 2021, there was not a single person around me. My party got divided. And in 2024, the PM put faith in the party and gave us five seats to contest the Lok Sabha elections. We won all five seats. If I ask for something from the alliance now, no one will be more greedy than me.”
On the party’s expansion plans, the Hajipur MP said, “After winning 19 seats in the recently concluded Bihar assembly elections, we are now seriously preparing to expand the party’s base in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. We will contest the upcoming assembly elections there as part of the NDA.”
