External Affairs Minister Jaishankar discussed geopolitical situation with the President of Finland

Helsinki, June 11 (IANS). India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Thursday participated in a panel discussion at Kultaranta Dialogue on ‘Emerging Powers and New Geopolitical Competition’ along with Foreign Minister of Finland Elina Valtonen and Assistant Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Lana Nusseibeh. During this, he also discussed the latest global situation. During this, the External Affairs Minister also met Finland’s President Alexander Stubb.

Both External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and President Stubb shared their views on the changing geopolitical situation and emphasized the importance of diplomacy in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar participated in discussions with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on ‘Emerging Powers and New Geopolitical Competition’ at the Kultaranta Dialogue.

During the discussion, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said that ongoing conflicts are causing rising costs and changes far beyond the regions and agreed that the international community should continue efforts to mitigate their consequences and create conditions for diplomacy.

He stressed the importance of building greater resilience and redundancy, derisking and diversifying supply chains in an increasingly volatile world.

The External Affairs Minister also reiterated that India’s energy choices are dictated by the country’s interests and procurement is based on affordability and availability.

He stressed the importance of India’s relations with the Gulf region, which are based on strong people-to-people ties, energy cooperation and growing strategic and defense partnership.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said the way of fighting is changing rapidly, with new technologies, weapons and tactics coexisting with traditional fighting methods, opening new avenues for India-EU defense and strategic cooperation.

He also pointed out that India and the EU have just this year completed negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed a Strategic and Defense Partnership and a Comprehensive Mobility Cooperation Framework, which shows the growing depth of the relationship.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also held a meeting with UAE Foreign Minister Nusseibeh and took stock of the progress made in the comprehensive strategic partnership. Also discussed regional issues of mutual benefit.
