Kolkata, June 6 (IANS). An FIR has been registered against former North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha at Mathabhanga police station in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. He has been accused of threatening to kill the famous Bhavaiya folk singer Manindranath Burman.
Manindranath Burman, a resident of Nayarhat, Mathabhanga, has alleged in his written complaint to the police that former MLA Udayan Guha had threatened to kill him. On Friday night, he reached Mathabhanga police station with his lawyer and lodged a formal complaint.
In the complaint, the singer said that before the assembly elections, he had composed a song on the alleged corruption in the Trinamool Congress government and sang it in public. He alleges that after this Udayan Guha threatened to kill him and goons were also behind him.
Manindranath Burman claimed that due to threat to his life he was forced to remain in hiding for a long time. He has provided the police with all the facts and allegations related to the case.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Manindranath said, “When the Trinamool Congress was in power, I wrote and sang many songs against the state government. This angered Udayan Guha. Many Trinamool leaders from Dinhata threatened to kill me. I had to run away from there. At that time I could not even lodge a complaint with the police because miscreants were behind me.”
It is noteworthy that before the assembly elections, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Partha Pratim Rai had also reached Manindranath Burman’s house with the list of development works of the government in the last 15 years.
After the FIR was registered, an attempt was made to contact Udayan Guha, but his mobile phone was found switched off. At the same time, the local Trinamool Congress leadership also refused to comment on this matter.
After the formation of the BJP government in the state, action against alleged illegal and criminal cases related to Trinamool Congress leaders has intensified. The police are continuously taking action against Trinamool leaders and anti-social elements on charges of law violation.
In the last one month, many Trinamool Congress councilors have been arrested on charges of corruption and extortion across the state.
