Center’s tough stance on infiltration
Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly raised the issue of infiltration within the country at various public forums. He stressed that the Central Government is committed not only to stop infiltration but also to identify every illegal migrant and expel them from the country. Earlier, he had said, “The governments currently in power in Tripura, Assam and West Bengal follow the principle that there should be no infiltration of any kind.” “The BSF must not only guard the border but also build bridges of communication with village patwaris, local police stations, district collectors and superintendents of police – so that infiltration routes as well as those used for cattle smuggling can be identified and sealed.”
Crowd on Bangladesh border
Since the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal, continuous action is being taken against infiltrators. Strict steps are being taken under the instructions of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. As a result, illegal immigrants are flocking to return to Bangladesh in large numbers. On the morning of Tuesday (May 26, 2026), infiltrators gathered at Hakimpur check post with the intention of entering Bangladesh. Following the issuance of instructions regarding ‘Detected Default Holding Centres’, Bangladeshis are returning to the border in large numbers.
