Amritsar, June 28 (IANS). Giving a big gift to the people of Amritsar, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday dedicated the new flyover built at the junction of Sultanwind Bypass and Sultanwind Link Road.
This flyover has been built to overcome the long-standing problem of traffic jams and provide better transportation facilities to more than two lakh devotees who visit Amritsar every day. The government has claimed that the project was completed under a transparent system, resulting in a saving of Rs 11.52 crore for the exchequer.
Referring to the development works, the Chief Minister said that by July 15, 3,100 new stadiums, 3,000 gyms and 400 new Aam Aadmi clinics will be ready for the people in the state. He also informed that now more than 80 percent of canal water is being used for irrigation.
He said that now the contractors have also been given the responsibility of maintenance of more than 43,000 kilometers of roads for five years.
The Chief Minister said his government was focusing on development and honest governance, while the opposition, unable to counter their actions, was busy spreading fake videos.
Speaking to the media after dedicating the project to the public, Bhagwant Mann said, “Every day more than two lakh devotees visit Sri Darbar Sahib and other historical and religious places of this holy city. Our government is continuously strengthening the infrastructure of the city to make the visit of the devotees more convenient and comfortable.”
“Today we have dedicated to the public the new flyover constructed at the junction of Sultanwind Bypass and Sultanwind Link Road,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that due to heavy traffic at Sultanwind Link Road Junction on Tarn Taran Road near Tarawala Bridge, local people, travelers and devotees coming from outside were facing the problem of jam for a long time.
He said that this flyover will improve the traffic system in the city and save valuable time of thousands of people every day.
Referring to the transparent functioning of the project, the Chief Minister said that the government had given administrative approval of Rs 34.20 crore for this project, but it was completed at a cost of only Rs 22.68 crore. This resulted in a saving of Rs 11.52 crore.
He informed that the total length of this project including the approach road is 985 meters.
According to the Chief Minister, the length of the flyover is 725 meters and width is 14 meters. To maintain smooth flow of local traffic, a 5.50 meter wide service road has also been constructed on both sides of the flyover.
