New Delhi, March 2 (IANS). Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat gave his reaction after the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and said that the way Khamenei’s life has been taken is not fair at all. The Congress MP also raised questions on the stance of the Central Government amid the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
Speaking to news agency IANS, Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat said on Khamenei’s death, “The way Khamenei’s life has been taken is not at all appropriate. Every country has the right to decide who is their government and who elects them. You and I should not interfere in that. We all have seen the situation in Venezuela. I would definitely like to say that with power you cannot impose your views on anyone.”
Regarding India’s stand on the Iran-Israel conflict, the Congress MP said, “If we talk about India’s policy in the context of India, we are against aggression in any sovereign country, we want peace. Dialogue is our biggest weapon. I understand that war is a problem in itself, war is not a solution to any problem.”
He further said that there are many contradictions regarding the Middle East both during the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and during today’s government. India’s stand has been peace and dialogue. Apart from that, these things are going on. India is not able to take any stand under the present government.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rashid Alvi, reacting to Khamenei’s death, called Israel a terrorist country. He said, “How can you kill the Supreme Leader of a country. He has supporters all over the world. Followers of every religion are expressing grief over the way he was killed.”
The Congress leader further said, “There can be nothing more terrorism than the fact that both Israel and America together are doing this work all over the world. They arrested the President of Venezuela. They destroyed countries like Iraq and Libya. Now they want to destroy Iran. America and Israel are acting arbitrarily on the basis of their power.”
