Jammu and Kashmir: Jitendra Singh to inaugurate NCW conference in Srinagar

जम्मू-कश्मीर : जितेंद्र सिंह श्रीनगर में एनसीडब्ल्यू सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करेंगे

Srinagar, May 15 (IANS). Union Minister Jitendra Singh will lead discussions on women’s rights and empowerment at the two-day ‘Shakti Samvad’ organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) here from Saturday, an official said.

According to an official statement, the fourth edition of ‘Shakti Samvad’ will be held on May 16 and 17. In this, State Women’s Commissions from across the country will come together and discuss on women’s rights, institutional coordination and strengthening of mechanisms for women’s safety.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh will address the inaugural session, while NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar will address the gathering. She will emphasize the importance of accountable governance, strong institutional support and grassroots mechanisms to protect women’s rights and dignity.

Several topics will be specifically discussed in this two-day consultation. It will highlight the progress made by states, review state laws from the perspective of women’s rights, recent Supreme Court and High Court judgments related to women, dealing with incidents of stalking, legal and institutional response, and women and the new labor code: protection of rights, welfare and dignity at the workplace.

‘Shakti Samvad’ is a flagship counseling initiative of the National Commission for Women (NCW). It aims to promote close coordination and continuous engagement between the NCW and State Women Commissions.

The first edition of this consultation was held in Ayodhya, followed by Mumbai and New Delhi. The edition held in Srinagar has further reinforced NCW’s commitment towards collaborative policy-making and institutional strengthening for the welfare of women across the states.

The holding of this national-level consultation in Srinagar also reflects the increased participation of institutions and stakeholders of Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, it also underlines the importance of inclusive dialogue and coordinated governance in advancing women’s rights and ensuring their access to justice.

The event will be attended by senior government officials, legal experts, representatives of law enforcement agencies, policy-makers and members of State Women Commissions from across the country.
