Kangana Ranaut: Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is in the news these days. The reason behind this is 78 year old farmer woman Mohinder Kaur, who was fighting for her respect for the last four years. Kangana Ranaut apologized to Mohinder Kaur with folded hands. At present the court has released him on bail, but now it is being said throughout Punjab that even if late, the truth definitely wins.
Four years long battle of elderly farmer
Mohinder Kaur is a resident of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district of Punjab. He has 13 acres of land, but his life is not like that of a prosperous farmer. Their house is old, the roof is supported by wooden logs. Every morning she cooks rotis on the stove for her 80-year-old ailing husband Labh Singh and bed-ridden son Gurdas. Mohinder says that people think that having land makes a farmer rich, but the reality is that farming requires more hard work and less income. Earlier they used to grow cotton, but when insects started growing, they switched to paddy. Now most of the land has been given on rent.
Broken family, but not broken courage
Mohinder Kaur’s son has been battling a serious infection for the last three months. The daughter-in-law passed away from illness one and a half years ago. All the responsibilities of the house are now on his shoulders. Mohinder Kaur says that the life of a farmer is never easy. My son’s condition is bad, my daughter-in-law has left, but I will not back down. As long as I have breath, I will keep fighting. Husbands suffering from asthma often appear in court on their behalf. Even at this age, this couple is fighting alone for their respect. Without noise, without politics.
When we got a glimpse of justice in the court
When Kangana Ranaut appeared in the court, the entire Bathinda had its eyes on that moment. Kangana apologized in the court and said that she regretted her mistake and it all happened due to misunderstanding. The court released him on bail, and fixed November 24 as the next hearing date.
Mohinder Kaur’s lawyer Raghubir Singh Behniwal, who is himself associated with the BJP, says, “Kangana’s apology is just a formality. We will not accept it. We will not tolerate the insult to the mothers of Punjab. This case will be fought till the end.”
Who is this ‘Farmer Grandmother’?
The matter started during the farmers’ movement of 2020-21, when Kangana Ranaut shared a post on social media. That post contained Mohinder Kaur’s picture, and Kangana had written that she was the same ‘grandmother’ who was seen in Shaheen Bagh, who was being paid to join the protest.
This comment went viral on social media and Mohinder Kaur was deeply hurt. She said, “I have toiled in the fields all my life, I am not going to protest for money.” And this is where his four-year long legal battle began.
Today, even though there has been only an apology in the court, this is the first step to victory for Mohinder Kaur. An elderly female farmer proved that the voice of truth does not see age or strength, it just needs courage.
