Bengaluru, June 23 (IANS). An elderly woman from Davanagere, Karnataka has donated her life savings for the country’s soldiers. This is a government initiative through which people can contribute to help the families of soldiers martyred in defense of the country.
KB Karibasamma, a famous school teacher and supporter of euthanasia, made this donation by combining her pension, savings and the money she got from selling her house.
KB Karibasamma herself is suffering from a serious disease like cancer and has been campaigning for a long time demanding euthanasia, so that people suffering from serious incurable diseases can get the right to a dignified death.
Euthanasia refers to patients who are in a permanent coma or critical condition where treatment is not possible, and who are allowed to die with dignity.
Karibasamma is known for campaigning in support of ‘euthanasia’ in Davangere district and has now sold everything and donated it to the army. His step is being appreciated a lot in the society.
She donated a check of Rs 10 lakh from her savings to the ‘Bharat Ke Veer’ Corpus Fund and is currently living in an old age home.
Speaking to IANS, Karibasamma said, “I wanted to give my life savings to PM Modi, but I did not get such a fortune. My health is deteriorating day by day. I had also written a letter to the Prime Minister. I have handed over this money to the Deputy Commissioner of my city.
She decided that instead of spending it on the treatment of her serious illness, she would donate this amount for the welfare of the soldiers.
District Deputy Commissioner G.M. Gangadhar Swamy said that Karibasamma had been writing letters to the government on the issue of euthanasia for a long time and he had also visited the old age home and met her. He told that this amount is being forwarded to the government.
Former MLC Dr. Shivayogi Swamy said that this is a very inspiring step and the society should take inspiration from it.
He told that Karibasamma has donated her entire savings (about Rs 6 lakh from selling her house and Rs 4 lakh saved from pension) totaling Rs 10 lakh for the soldiers’ welfare.
