New Delhi, February 26 (IANS). Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reconstituted the three-member committee formed to investigate the corruption allegations against Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma. According to the notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on February 25, the reconstituted committee will be effective from March 6.

According to a notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Wednesday, Supreme Court Justice Arvind Kumar will be the chairman of the reconstituted committee. Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Shri Chandrashekhar and senior advocate of Karnataka High Court B.V. Acharya will be a member.

It has been clarified in the notification that the reconstituted panel will be effective from March 6. The move follows the scheduled retirement of Madras High Court Chief Justice Maninder Mohan Srivastava, who was part of the original three-member committee formed after the impeachment notice against Justice Verma was sent to Parliament in August 2025. In his place, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Shri Chandrashekhar has been included in the panel, while Chairman, Supreme Court Justice Arvind Kumar and senior advocate B.V. Acharya will continue as a member.

The committee formed to investigate corruption allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma has been reconstituted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. According to a notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on February 25, one of the three members of the committee, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava, is scheduled to retire on March 6. Now Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Shri Chandrashekhar has been included in his place. This inquiry committee was formed in August last year, when a total of 152 MPs from the ruling party and the opposition presented an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma, who was then the judge of the Delhi High Court.

In August last year, a total of 152 MPs from the ruling party and the opposition had presented an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma, who was then serving in the Delhi High Court. Accepting the proposal, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha constituted a three-member inquiry committee, although Justice Verma challenged the validity of the committee in the Supreme Court, which was rejected on 16 January. After this he appeared before the committee and presented his side.

The controversy started with the fire incident at his official residence in Delhi on the night of March 15, 2024. While extinguishing the fire, burnt cash was recovered from the store room, videos of which were revealed. At that time Justice Verma was in Bhopal. He denied the allegations and said that the recovered money had no connection with him or his family.
