Haridwar, July 20 (IANS). Reactions have started emerging from religious and social sectors regarding the proposed Vande Mataram Bill. Mahamandaleshwar Karauli Shankar Mahadev of Naya Udasin Akhara in Haridwar welcomed this bill and called it a step taken in the interest of the country. He said that this initiative should have been taken long ago and strict legal provisions should be made regarding respect for national symbols.
Speaking to IANS, Mahamandaleshwar Karauli Shankar Mahadev said, “The proposed law related to Vande Mataram is a good step, even if it is delayed. Such provisions should have been implemented at the time of the country’s independence. This is an important decision taken in the interest of the country and society.”
He said, “Vande Mataram is not just a slogan but a symbol of the feeling of respect and gratitude towards the motherland. It is a matter of concern for a person who loses the feeling of respect towards his birthplace and country. The feeling of gratitude and respect towards the country should be there in every citizen.”
Mahamandaleshwar demanded from the Central Government that more stringent provisions should be made in cases related to Vande Mataram and insult to national symbols. He said, “Legal action should be taken against those who disrespect the symbols related to the honor of the country and there should be provision of strict punishment. I have been raising issues related to patriotism and national honor for a long time in various forums and discussions. The government should show strictness in such matters, so that the feeling of respect for the country can be strengthened.”
Karauli Shankar Mahadev also said that it is necessary to have a feeling of gratitude among the citizens towards the country’s land, culture and resources. It is the duty of the citizens to express respect towards the country in which a person is born, lives and from where he gets the means of living.
He said that to maintain national unity and respect of the country, it is necessary to promote positive thinking in the society. He also urged the government to include such provisions in the proposed law related to Vande Mataram, so that effective action can be taken against those who insult national sentiments.
