Kolkata, July 21 (IANS). Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the central government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the student protests in Delhi and the incidents during the party’s ‘Martyrs’ Day’ program in Kolkata.
Mamata Banerjee expressed support for the opposition movement through a post on social media platform ‘X’ and criticized both the incidents. He said in his post that the alleged action of the police against the youth in Delhi is not acceptable.
Criticizing the central government, he said that this kind of behavior with the youth is not in accordance with democratic values. All India Trinamool Congress fully supports the dharna organized by the opposition near Akbar Road and the party stands firmly with the opposition on this issue.
Banerjee also mentioned the incidents that took place in Kolkata on Monday night. He alleged that some people tried to create disruption during his party’s preparations for the ‘Martyrs’ Day’ programme. According to him, people who came on motorcycles damaged signboards related to the programme, vandalized the stage and cut microphone wires to affect the sound system.
Mamta Banerjee also claimed that during this period many young party workers were threatened and some were also injured. He held people associated with BJP responsible for these incidents and alleged that attempts to disrupt the program were made in a planned manner.
Despite these allegations, Mamata Banerjee said that the ‘Martyrs’ Day’ program organized in Kolkata was successful and got wide support from people and party workers across the state. He said that despite all the obstacles, the participation of a large number of people proved that the people stand with democratic values and the voice of the opposition.
The TMC chief said in his message that his party will continue the struggle against the alleged oppressive and dictatorial attitude of the BJP. This fight will not be limited to West Bengal only, but will continue throughout the country to protect democratic rights and constitutional values.
