'NDA vs Tamil Nadu clash': MK Stalin's sharp attack on upcoming elections

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday made a strong call against the AIADMK-BJP alliance ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections, terming the elections as a contest of “Tamil Nadu versus NDA”.

Addressing the NDTV Media Summit, MK Stalin slammed the BJP and AIADMK as corrupt, while praising the “Dravidian model” of the state government.

The Chief Minister said, “NDA is a treacherous alliance. I have always said that this election is a fight between NDA versus Tamil Nadu.”

Attacking the BJP, he alleged that the state government had received funds for education and metro projects.

He asked, “I ask the BJP, all their people are corrupt. Even the Supreme Court had punished (AIADMK), have you now washed them all in the washing machine? During the tenure of the DMK government, 4,000 temples have been consecrated. When will we get the funds which are pending due to non-acceptance of NEP? When will the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro projects get approval?”

Last year, the DMK government had implemented the State Education Policy (SEP) for a two-language system in the state.

MK Stalin has repeatedly targeted the central government over the metro rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai, while in November 2025, Union Minister Manohar Lal, while highlighting flaws in the projects, had accused Stalin of “politicizing” the issue.

Furthermore, while addressing the media summit, Stalin said that many states have adopted the schemes run by the Tamil Nadu government.

He said, “There are many models in India, but our model is unique. The state has its own unique political approach. Many states are following our schemes, and the Dravidian model is a guide for the entire country. The breakfast scheme for students increased school attendance and also increased focus on studies. We are expanding this scheme. The central government also follows this scheme. Development starts from Tamil Nadu.”

Assembly elections are due in Tamil Nadu later this year, where the DMK-Congress alliance will try to retain power against the BJP-AIADMK-led NDA.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is also in the fray with his debut film ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK), making the election a triangular contest.
