NDMC refutes Priyanka Chaturvedi's claim, name of Jor Bagh not changed, Anupam Colony only certification tag

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS). A post by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi on changing the name of Jor Bagh residential colony in Delhi to Anupam Colony has been made on X. Responding to this post, NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Council) Vice President Kuljeet Singh Chahal has denied this.

NDMC Vice Chairman said, “The event will be organized on 17th May 2026 at Jor Bagh Colony itself, where our team will formally announce it and also conduct a plantation drive (one tree in the name of Maa). The real meaning of ‘Anupam Colony’ is that NDMC’s Anupam Colony initiative is a model project for decentralized waste management. Colonies achieving this tag achieve 100 per cent waste segregation at source. Wet and horticultural waste is processed within the premises (through composting units). The aim is to eliminate the need to transport household waste outside the colony.

Kuljeet Singh said, “This is a sustainable development certification, not a new name. The official name of the colony will remain Jor Bagh. Other colonies that have already received this certification include New Moti Bagh, Kaka Nagar, Bapu Dham, Aradhana Cooperative Housing Society etc. I repeat the name has not changed. Anupam is only a certification tag.”

Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi first wrote on X, “From Jor Bagh to Anupam Colony. The right to show off has been snatched away from Delhi’s most posh colony.”

However, he later corrected his mistake and posted, “I have received information that this is not a name change, but an initiative of NDMC, under which the societies are being recognized which are setting standards for self-reliant and zero-waste lifestyle.”

Jor Bagh is an extremely posh and historic residential area located near Lodhi Road and Sri Aurobindo Marg in south-central New Delhi.
