'Opposition wants to make infiltrators citizens of India', SP Singh Baghel's counterattack on SIR controversy

New Delhi, November 21 (IANS). Union Minister of State SP Singh Baghel has said on SIR that the results of Bihar elections have shown that the public is in favor of SIR. During this, he also gave a befitting reply to the allegations of the opposition parties.

Speaking to IANS, Union Minister of State SP Singh Baghel said, “The opposition was saying that the Constitution is in danger in the general elections of 2019 and 2024. Now a false propaganda has been done on the subject of SIR.”

He said that NDA has got a great mandate in Bihar. The opposition should learn a lesson from this that now the voters and the people of the country have rejected their allegations regarding SIR.

Targeting the opposition on the issue of Bangladeshi citizens living illegally, SP Singh Baghel said, “Work is being done to polarize and appease Muslim votes. This time the opposition did not blame EVMs, but targeted the SIR and the Election Commission.”

The Union Minister of State said that there is no single person in the Election Commission. He is an institution and has his own rights, but he also cannot go above his constitutional rights. The Election Commission follows the rights given under the Constitution. However, when he strictly follows the rules, it gives stomach ache to the leaders of some political parties.

He further said, “These people (opposition) want to make foreign infiltrators voters of India and give them citizenship. But this will threaten the internal security of the country and will disturb social harmony, elections will also not be free and fair.”

SP Singh Baghel said that those who are not Indians and are not able to provide proof of Indian citizenship, such people are infiltrators, but the opposition is supporting them.

At the same time, BJP leader and Bihar minister Nitin Nabin reacted to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee opposing the SIR. He said, “Mamata Banerjee is the name of anarchy. She never accepts constitutional things as correct. It is because of anarchist thinking that Mamata Banerjee has marginalized West Bengal today. But definitely, Mamata Banerjee will lose ground in this election.”
