New Delhi, May 9 (IANS). After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party government for the first time in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have congratulated Suvendu Adhikari on becoming the Chief Minister, calling it a historic moment for West Bengal.

Dharmendra Pradhan said that Bengal today stands at a critical juncture, where its rich cultural heritage and new democratic aspirations are converging. Bengal has given the country many great thinkers, social reformers, writers, artists and nationalist leaders who strengthened the foundation of modern India. Referring to the spirit of ‘Sonar Bangla’, he said that it is not just a political change, but a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bengal for a better future.
Let us tell you that in a grand ceremony organized in Kolkata on Saturday, Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of secrecy to Suvendu Adhikari. Along with him, five other ministers also took oath as ministers. On this occasion, an atmosphere of enthusiasm was seen among BJP leaders and supporters.
The leaders who took oath as ministers along with Suvendu Adhikari include Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nishith Pramanik. With this historic victory of BJP, for the first time a right-wing party has formed a government in the state.
On May 8, the BJP legislature party unanimously elected Suvendu Adhikari as its leader. After this it was decided that he would become the Chief Minister. BJP captured power in the state by registering a landslide victory in the assembly elections.
Suvendu Adhikari’s political journey has been more than three decades long. He started politics in 1995 as a councilor from Kanthi Municipality. After this he was a councilor thrice and also became the chairman of Kanthi Municipality. He has more than 20 years of legislative experience. He was a Lok Sabha MP twice, an MLA thrice and also the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly for five years.
