Prime Minister and Home Minister should resign now 'after the verdict in Herald case': Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday, citing the court’s refusal to take cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate’s charge sheet against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and five others for money laundering in the ‘National Herald’ case, said that now Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should resign.

Kharge also alleged that the case was filed out of political vendetta to harass the Gandhi family.

A Delhi court on Tuesday refused to take cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheet in a money laundering case against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and five others in the ‘National Herald’ case.

Kharge told reporters, “The fake case of National Herald has been done in the spirit of political vendetta and malice. This newspaper was started by freedom fighters in 1938, which the BJP government is defaming by linking it to things like money laundering.” He also said, ”The truth is that there is nothing in this matter, but still the BJP is trying to harass the Congress party leaders by making it an issue.”

The Congress President claimed that the Modi government has been filing ED cases against leaders in this manner for its political gains and the BJP has similarly intimidated people and formed governments on its side. He said, “Now the decision has come in favor of justice. Truth has won. We very much welcome this decision.”

Kharge said that after the verdict in ‘National Herald’ case, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah should now resign. He said, “This decision is a slap on the face of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah. They should give an undertaking that in future they will not harass people.

Kharge later posted on Modi ji repeatedly made fabricated allegations against Congress leaders, especially the Gandhi family, conducted media trials and misled the nation. This decision of the court has blown away all those allegations and exposed the BJP government.

Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi said that the ‘National Herald’ case is proof of how the Modi government misuses investigative agencies. “The judge said that you did not fulfill the condition of Article 5,” he said in a joint press conference with Kharge. Only the agency could have filed this FIR, which was not done.

Singhvi said, “In this case, Congress leaders were interrogated for 80 hours, without knowing that no FIR was registered in it.” He said that the case, which was instituted without any foundation of law, collapsed under its own weight.

According to Singhvi, this case is strange because there was neither any transaction of money nor transfer of immovable property.

Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal said, “We will take to the streets and expose this political vendetta.” For the last seven years, the Congress Party is being continuously harassed by the ED. Our senior leaders are being targeted through vendetta politics and this is making every worker angry.” He said the misuse of agencies will be strongly protested across the country.
