Punjab: Man who tried to extort money from shopkeeper by posing as gangster arrested

Fazilka, December 28 (IANS). A shocking case has come to light from Fazilka village of Punjab. Here a person was trying to extort money from a shopkeeper by posing as a gangster, but the police has arrested him.

It is being told that the accused had demanded Rs 50 lakh from the jeweller. In the name of gangster, the accused had threatened the jeweler and was demanding money from him for recovery. The accused youth was demanding Rs 50 lakh from the jeweler by calling himself gangster Arzoo Bishnoi. Police traced the mobile and reached the accused.

SSP Gurmeet Singh told in the press conference that the accused has been identified as Nikesh Kumar, son of Ram Gopal, resident of Khui Kheda. He runs a grocery shop in the village. As soon as he saw the police, he started running away in fear of arrest. His leg broke while jumping from the gate. At present, he is admitted in the hospital.

Shivam Soni, owner of Shiva Jewelers located on Circular Road, had lodged a complaint with the police that on December 23, he received a call from an unknown person on his mobile. The caller introduced himself as gangster Arzoo Bishnoi and asked him to pay Rs 50 lakh within five days and threatened to kill him if the money was not paid.

After the threat from the accused, the police registered a case against an unknown person. A team formed under the leadership of SPD Ashwant Singh traced the threatening phone with technical assistance. Police arrested accused Nikesh Kumar on Saturday. He has confessed to his crime.

The accused said that he was trying to scare jewelers by using the gangster’s name to get rich quickly and repay his debts. Nikesh Kumar is a BA graduate and runs a grocery shop in the village. He has no criminal record.

The accused was influenced by gangsters after watching their videos on social media and planned to use Arzoo Bishnoi’s name to earn quick money. The police produced the accused in the court and obtained two days’ remand.
