Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived at Lucknow airport on Friday to appear before a court in Sultanpur. A defamation case was filed against him in 2018 for allegedly making objectionable remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He is accompanied by senior Congress leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari, Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra and Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai.
Speaking to ANI, Pramod Tiwari alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is filing false and fabricated cases against Gandhi across the country including Sultanpur. He said that the Congress party has full faith in the judiciary and is hopeful of getting justice.
Tiwari said, “BJP is continuously filing false and fabricated cases against Rahul Gandhi across the country. Similarly, a case has been registered in Sultanpur too. We have faith in the judiciary; we will get justice. Rahul Gandhi is coming to appear today in this case.”
Mishra said that all the party workers are standing with the Congress MP.
Aradhana Mishra told ANI, “Rahul Gandhi will attend the hearing of the ongoing case in Sultanpur today. All the workers are with him.”
Meanwhile, Ajay Rai said that Gandhi has a scheduled program in Sultanpur and he will personally appear before the court in this case.
Ajay Rai said, “Rahul Gandhi has a program in Sultanpur, so he has to go there, he has to appear personally in the court there, for this he is coming.”
The case was filed in the District and Sessions Court of Madhya Pradesh-Legislative Court, Sultanpur on August 4, 2018. It is alleged that Rahul Gandhi had made these comments during an election rally in Bengaluru before the Karnataka elections.
