Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Sunday narrated the ordeal of a woman who alleged that she was humiliated, abused and threatened by her family members.
She sparked a firestorm with her explosive social media posts, in which she described the pain of being ostracized, made to feel worthless, and the burden she carries.
In an emotional post on X, Rohini claimed that she was “humiliated”, “mistreated”, and even threatened with hitting her with slippers.
A devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother, Rohini stood up for her rights and dignity. His family and community expected him to compromise, but he refused to compromise his values. This resulted in brutal verbal abuse, physical threats and ultimately expulsion from their ancestral home.
He wrote, “Yesterday a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother were humiliated, abused, shoes were picked up to hit… I did not compromise my self-respect, did not leave the truth. That’s why I had to bear the insult.
Rohini further wrote, “Yesterday, a daughter left her crying parents and siblings behind and was forced to leave her maternal home. She was made an orphan. I pray that none of you ever have to follow my path, and that no home has a daughter or sister like Rohini.”
However, there was no immediate reaction from RJD or Yadav family members on Rohini’s allegations.
The remarks come at a time when political developments in Bihar are attracting people’s attention as the ruling NDA has got 202 seats, which is three-fourth majority in the 243-member assembly.
Hours after announcing his decision to quit politics and break ties with his family, Acharya on Saturday claimed that Tejashwi Yadav and his close aide RJD MP Sanjay Yadav have thrown him out of the family.
Tejashwi’s sister alleged that when she questioned Sanjay Yadav about the party’s defeat, she was “humiliated, abused and even hit”.
“I don’t have any family. You can go and ask Sanjay Yadav, Rameez and Tejashwi Yadav. They are the ones who threw me out of the family,” Rohini Acharya told reporters in her first reaction when asked about her ‘shocking’ announcement earlier in the day.
Rohini Acharya claimed that the party leadership does not want to take responsibility for the defeat in the Bihar assembly elections. He said that when he held Tejashwi Yadav’s close aide Sanjay Yadav responsible for the party’s defeat, he was “thrown out of the house, humiliated, abused and even beaten.”
He said, “They don’t want to take any responsibility… The whole country is asking why the party failed like this. When you take the names of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, you are thrown out of the house, humiliated, abused and even killed.”
RJD’s performance in the Bihar Assembly elections was poor and despite contesting more than 140 seats in the 243-member state assembly, it could get only 25 seats.
Earlier on Saturday, Rohini Acharya had announced quitting politics and breaking ties with her family and took the entire blame for the party’s poor performance in the elections.
The rift in Lalu Yadav’s family has widened further with his “isolation” from the family, as his brother Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from both the party and the family earlier this year following a controversy over his personal life.
This development has created a stir in Bihar politics and many people are speculating about the future of the political dynasty of Lalu family. Rohini’s allegations have also raised questions on RJD’s internal dynamics and the role of family members in the party.
