Guwahati, July 5 (IANS). Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its action against crime and illegal activities, as well as stepped up efforts to prevent human trafficking in its jurisdiction.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that RPF personnel conducted several successful operations at different railway stations and trains during June 25 to 30. In these operations, narcotics, illicit liquor, stolen goods, illegal railway tickets and cash were recovered. At the same time, criminals were caught, vulnerable passengers were rescued and railway property was protected.
These ongoing efforts reflect NFR’s strong commitment to ensure a safe and passenger-friendly railway network.
Sharma said that during six days, RPF soldiers conducted 36 successful operations. In these operations, 83.984 kg ganja worth approximately Rs 41.99 lakh, 343 bottles and one can of illicit liquor/beer worth more than Rs 39,000, seven mobile phones worth more than Rs 1.12 lakh, two illegal railway tickets worth more than Rs 7,000 and more than Rs 35,000 in cash were recovered.
The total value of the recovered goods was more than Rs 43.92 lakh.
RPF personnel also arrested 17 criminals, including those involved in drug smuggling, black marketing of tickets, theft, stone pelting and other crimes under the Railways Act and other applicable laws. These operations also revealed the humanitarian commitment of RPF.
According to the CPRO, during this period the RPF rescued 17 people, which included 15 minor boys and girls and two adults from vulnerable sections. After following all the necessary procedures, they were handed over safely to the respective Child Welfare Committees, Childline, One Stop Centres, NGOs or parents.
Additionally, RPF personnel provided immediate medical aid to an injured passenger at Dalkhola Railway Station in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal, resulting in timely treatment and safe transportation to the hospital.
