New Delhi, March 31 (IANS). The Central Government released Rs 1,560 crore to five states under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
A total of Rs 1,561.53 crore funds have been released to five states under the new Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, after Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil issued operational guidelines earlier this month. An official gave information in this regard on Tuesday.
After completing the mandatory compliance conditions, Rs 792.93 crore has been released to Uttar Pradesh, Rs 536.53 crore to Chhattisgarh, Rs 154.02 crore to Madhya Pradesh, Rs 65.31 crore to Odisha and Rs 12.74 crore to Maharashtra for the year 2025-26, the official said in a statement.
The statement said that to ensure transparency, accountability and better service delivery, a structured verification system has been put in place, which states are required to complete before the funds are released.
The statement said that as funds have been released for the approved schemes, their timely completion will be closely monitored to ensure implementation in a timely manner.
This is supported by a comprehensive review mechanism, under which the Ministry evaluates financial utilization, technical compliance and data verification before releasing funds.
It said this approach, being implemented for the first time, introduces a performance-based and compliance-linked mechanism to strengthen accountability and ensure effective results.
The Union Cabinet on March 10 approved Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, which marks the restructuring of the Mission from an infrastructure-centric approach to a service delivery model.
This transformation is supported by strengthening drinking water governance and an institutional ecosystem to ensure sustainable supply of piped potable water in rural areas, the statement said. As part of this restructuring, the Cabinet approved increasing the total outlay to Rs 8.69 lakh crore.
