Coimbatore, March 29 (IANS). Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the city ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Coimbatore on Sunday as he passes through the city to campaign for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Kerala.

Authorities have declared several areas in and around Coimbatore as “red zones” and imposed strict restrictions on drone operations and public movement. These measures are part of the comprehensive security protocols put in place to ensure the safe arrival and departure of the Prime Minister from Coimbatore Airport.

According to police officials, the use of drones has been completely banned till 5 pm on Sunday in sensitive areas including Neelampur, Chintamanipudur, Chettipalayam, Madhukarai, Ettimadai, Walayar and surrounding areas under the jurisdiction of Coimbatore Rural Police.

Similarly, Coimbatore City Police has imposed red zone rules for 48 hours in major urban stretches like Avinashi Road, Peelamedu, SITRA, Nehru Nagar, Singanallur, SIHS Colony, Chinniyampalayam, Kalapatti, Kochi-Palakkad Road, Pothanur, Sundarapuram and Echaneri.

Around 5,000 police personnel have been deployed across the district and three-tier security has been established at the airport and surrounding areas. Surveillance has been increased using advanced surveillance systems and entry into critical areas is being strictly controlled.

As part of his campaign program before the assembly elections, the Prime Minister is going to reach Coimbatore by plane and then leave for Kerala by helicopter.

Elections are going to be held in Kerala on April 9 and political activities have intensified across the state. As part of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will campaign in support of NDA candidates in Palakkad and Thrissur districts.

He is likely to reach Palakkad around 2:30 pm and will address a public meeting at the Fort grounds soon after. Later in the day, he will leave for Thrissur at around 4 pm, where he will participate in a road show. In Thrissur, the Prime Minister met former Chief Minister of Kerala K. Karunakaran’s daughter Padmaja will campaign in support of Venugopal, which will further increase the political importance of this visit.

The high-profile campaign is expected to increase the NDA’s visibility in the state as it enters the crucial phase of the election campaign.
