Two days after the party high command decided to retain Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding as Punjab Congress chief, Congress leader and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi called a meeting of supporters at his home on Friday. His new role was announced on Wednesday along with the formation of different committees of the party for the 2027 assembly elections.
‘Angry’ Channi stayed away from the entire conversation on Thursday over not being appointed to the top post. He did not even congratulate the party high command on being made the election campaign committee chairman – which was a departure from the usual tradition of leaders thanking the top leadership after new appointments.
**Amarinder Singh Raja Wading and Pratap Singh Bajwa will continue on their posts**
The special thing is that Congress has put an end to the speculations about change of leadership in its Punjab state unit before the upcoming assembly elections. **Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi appointed head of election campaign committee**
Besides this, the party has appointed its prominent Dalit face and former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi as the head of the election campaign committee. At the same time, Lok Sabha member Sukhjinder Randhawa has been appointed chairman of the core committee, former minister Vijay Inder Singla has been appointed chairman of the election management and coordination committee and MP Amar Singh has been appointed chairman of the manifesto committee.
