Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: BJP releases list of 27 candidates, Tamilisai Sundararajan gets ticket from Mylapore

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released its first list of 27 candidates for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which includes the names of several prominent leaders from different constituencies in the state. BJP has also given tickets to 5 women.

Prominent candidates include former governor and senior BJP leader Tamilisai Sundararajan who will contest from Mylapore constituency. BJP state unit president Nainar Nagendran has been given the ticket from Sattur. BJP’s Rashtriya Mahila Morcha president Vanathi Srinivasan will contest from Coimbatore North. Union Minister of State L. Murugan will contest from the reserved constituency of Avinashi.

The BJP is contesting the elections in Tamil Nadu primarily in alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Other constituents of the NDA include regional parties, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Tamil Nadu Congress and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK). This time there is a tough contest between NDA vs DMK in the elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will intensify the election campaign for the party and NDA alliance candidates in Tamil Nadu from Friday. He will also hold a meeting with around 100 party officials, grassroots workers and key stakeholders in Chennai on Saturday.

It is noteworthy that voting for the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly will be held on April 23. April 6 is the last date for nomination. Nominations can be withdrawn till April 9. The results of the assembly elections will be announced on May 4.

After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, a total of 5,67,74,436 voters will cast their vote this time in Tamil Nadu. Of these, 12,51,749 voters will cast their vote for the first time. The number of voters above 85 years of age in the state is 3,99,668.

The Election Commission of India has created a total of 75,032 polling stations for the elections in the state.
