The death toll increased to 40 after a person injured in a government hospital in a stampede at Karur, Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that families of 39 people killed in Karur stampede will get two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Prime Minister Modi also announced a assistance of Rs 50,000 thousand for those injured in this tragic incident.

Earlier on Saturday, the Prime Minister expressed condolences to those killed in a stampede during the public meeting of TVK chief and actor Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu. He wished the people injured in this incident to get well soon.
PM Modi said in a post, “The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu is very sad. My condolences are with those families who have lost their loved ones. I wish to give them strength in this difficult time. All the injured pray for early recovery.”
The Tamilga Vatri Kazhaga Party led by actor-royalty Vijay, as the death toll increased, filed a petition at the Madras High Court bench in Madurai demanding an independent inquiry into the Karur stampede.
Avoiding accusing a conspiracy in the incident, TVK Deputy General Secretary Nirmal Kumar told reporters that the party had filed a petition in the High Court for a fair investigation into the incident. He said, “The judges have agreed to hear the case at 2.15 pm tomorrow. After that we will officially release our statement.”
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary P Senthil Kumar said that 39 people have died and 67 people are undergoing treatment.
After meeting patients at GH, Senthil Kumar told reporters, “39 people have died in this unfortunate incident – 17 women, 13 men, 4 boys and 5 girls. The postmortem of 30 (out of 39 dead) has been done and the bodies have been handed over to their families.”
Regarding admitted patients, he told that 26 people were treated in OPD and were discharged. 2 of 67 admitted patients were in critical condition. The condition of all the rest was stable. A patient was transferred to Madurai GH for further treatment.
Explain that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had also announced a assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the victims and Rs 1 lakh to the people who were undergoing treatment in hospitals. Chief Minister Stalin has ordered an inquiry into the incident, while the police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nanar Nagendran reached Karur’s Government Medical College and Hospital on Sunday, where the injured people are undergoing treatment and the bodies of the victims are being handed over to their families after the post -mortem.
The Tamil Nadu BJP also called for the cancellation of all party programs for the next two days.
