Tamil Nadu: Vijay targets DMK-BJP, calls elections ‘historic battle of change’

तमिलनाडु: विजय का डीएमके-भाजपा पर निशाना, चुनाव को बताया ‘बदलाव की ऐतिहासिक लड़ाई’

Tirunelveli, April 8 (IANS). Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Wednesday addressed a huge public meeting at KTC Nagar in Tirunelveli, intensifying his campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Before this, he reached Thoothukudi airport and from there traveled about 30 kilometers by road to the rally venue, where he was given a warm welcome by the supporters.

Starting his speech, Vijay said, “My greetings to the people of Tirunelveli who live in my heart.” After this he launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK. He alleged that if DMK had full power, this program would not have taken place.

Describing Chief Minister MK Stalin as “helpless”, Vijay said the state government was adopting pressure and defamation tactics to stop his political rise.

He also alleged that the DMK and BJP-led alliance, though appearing to be rivals publicly, were indirectly working against him.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay claimed that public discontent was growing and the DMK alliance was weakening. He also said that the “real Congress” is standing with him, while the ruling party is trying to put pressure on him.

Describing the election as an emotional battle, Vijay said, “For others it may be just an election, but for us it is an emotion.” He rejected the allegations against him and said that the legal and political attacks have had no impact on the public.

Vijay also criticized the restrictions being imposed on his election programs and alleged that special conditions were being imposed to limit his reach.

On the issue of law and order, he cornered the state government and said that the government has failed to control crime, drug trafficking and illegal sand mining. He also questioned the government’s moral right to seek votes amid allegations of corruption.

Describing the election as a direct contest, Vijay said, “This is not a multi-cornered contest, but a direct fight between DMK and TVK.”

He expressed confidence that his party will form the next government and provide pro-people governance focused on youth and women.
