Chennai, March 5 (IANS). Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is likely to announce its candidates for all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu within the next two weeks. According to party sources, this preparation has been intensified keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections.
While other political parties in the state are engaged in talks regarding alliance and seat sharing, TVK is currently not a part of any electoral alliance. In such a situation, the party is likely to contest the elections independently and is trying to establish itself as an alternative force in the state politics.
The announcement of candidates for all 234 seats is being seen as Vijay’s strategy through which he wants to present his party as a serious contender in the electoral contest.
According to sources, Vijay may soon start the process of interview and consultation with potential candidates to finalize the candidates. There will be several stages of evaluation for the selection of candidates, in which aspects like ground hold, organizational capacity and public acceptance will be considered.
Party insiders said the process of preparing the preliminary list of potential candidates has already been expedited. Four potential candidates have been identified for each assembly constituency. Out of these four names, the final candidate will be selected on the basis of political possibilities, local influence and election strategy of the party.
Meanwhile, Vijay is also busy strengthening the district level organization of the party. He is reviewing the local political situation through executive meetings in various districts and assessing the preparedness of party workers before the election campaign.
The objective of these meetings is to activate the workers at the grassroots level and to completely prepare the organizational structure of the party before the announcement of the candidates.
Apart from this, the party leadership is also planning to organize large-scale conferences and public meetings in the coming weeks. Through these programs, Vijay will present the party’s thinking and vision to the public, generate enthusiasm among supporters and present the key candidates publicly.
Political experts believe that early announcement of candidates on all 234 seats can give TVK an electoral edge and the candidates will also get enough time to campaign. Therefore, the coming weeks are considered very important for Vijay and his party.
