Hyderabad, May 29 (IANS). Government officials said on Friday that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has outlined the Congress’s action plan, which has a provision to protect voters from weaker sections like Dalits, minorities, tribals and migrant workers from deletion of names from electoral rolls in Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This revision is scheduled to begin in Telangana next month.
Participating in the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting of the Congress at Gandhi Bhawan, the Chief Minister warned that SIR could emerge as a major issue for Lambada, tribals and migrant workers.
Chief Minister Reddy commented, “A large number of people in many Assembly/Lok Sabha constituencies have migrated to other places. The possibility of Dalits, minorities and women losing votes in SIR also cannot be ruled out.”
Revanth Reddy directed the party leadership to appoint SIR in-charges for all 119 assembly constituencies and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The Chief Minister said that the in-charges should visit their respective constituencies regularly.
He further said, “We can ensure that not a single vote is canceled when the people in charge perform their duties.”
The Chief Minister noted that Congress leaders and workers are understanding the SIR better, which is a positive aspect.
Congress leaders were also recognizing the potential hardships the SIR would cause to the common people, the poor and Congress party workers.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stressed that the Congress should develop a comprehensive understanding of how to resolve the problems arising from the SIR.
He called for taking and incorporating the advice and suggestions of former State Congress Committee presidents.
Chief Minister Reddy said the Congress should be careful to ensure that the votes of people who have migrated elsewhere are not lost.
Meetings related to SIR should be held on Assembly constituency basis in the 15 constituencies falling within the Hyderabad city limits.
Rajya Sabha members and Legislative Council members should be assigned specific responsibilities within the Hyderabad region.
The Chief Minister appealed to all Congress leaders to move forward in the spirit of coordination.
Chief Minister Reddy said Mahila Congress should organize cluster-wise SIR meetings.
He asked the ministers in-charge to dedicate one entire day every 10 days exclusively for party-related activities.
Chief Minister Reddy further said that he should visit the ground level and personally interact with the party workers.
The Chief Minister said that he will also meet Congress officials at the village level once every 10 days.
From now on he will devote three days a month completely to the Congress office-bearers.
