Moradabad, May 22 (IANS). Politics continues on the issue of implementing dress code in colleges of Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan expressed objection to this decision on Friday. He said that no one’s religious identity and traditions should be interfered in the name of dress code. He also claimed that today’s youth does not like dress codes.

In an exclusive conversation with news agency IANS, ST Hasan said that it may be possible to implement the dress code up to the school level, but it is not practical to implement it on graduation, post graduation, MPhil and PhD students. He said that today’s youth does not like dress code and this is the ground reality.

The SP leader said that even if the dress code is implemented, it should only have simple rules like pant-shirt or salwar-kurta. He stressed that there should be no restriction on whether someone is wearing a turban, someone is wearing a hijab or someone is wearing a cap. He further said that religious practices like turban of Sikh community and hijab of Muslim girls should not be interfered with.

It was announced to make dress code mandatory in universities and degree colleges of the state. After the implementation of this decision of the government, only students coming wearing uniform will get entry. The state government has taken this step on the instructions of Governor Anandiben Patel. According to Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, the reason behind implementing this decision is to eliminate the discrimination of rich and poor and the campus environment will be better for studies. Also, discipline will be visible among the students.

After this decision of the government, there will be a ban on casual clothes like jeans, T-shirt, shorts in the campus. Additionally, disciplinary action will also be taken against violators.
