Dibrugarh, January 30 (IANS). Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday laid the foundation stone of the proposed second complex of Assam Assembly in Dibrugarh. He said the move is aimed at strengthening governance in Upper Assam and improving administrative accessibility for the people.
Addressing the program, Home Minister Shah said that Bhoomi Pujan and inauguration of 5 projects at a cost of about Rs 825 crore has been done here. I congratulate the Chief Minister of Assam, who has announced that in 2025 we will make Assam inclusive. He had decided to make Dibrugarh the second capital of Assam. He said that the new Assembly complex, along with the MLA hostel, once completed, will greatly enhance the ease of governance in the area. He said that this project will help in bringing the people of Upper Assam closer to the benefits of good governance and will reduce the distance between the administration and the citizens.
Meanwhile, targeting the Congress, Amit Shah said, “We have seen Congress governments, many announcements remained just announcements. But Himanta Biswa Sharma made the announcement and the foundation stone of the second assembly complex of Assam has been laid on 250 acres. Today, all over India, the residents of Dibrugarh will be considered residents of the capital Assam.”
He said, “This is the land of Dibrugarh, from where the aroma of Assam tea reaches every corner of the world and the delicious taste of Indian tea is liked all over the world. This region has given India a distinct identity across the world. The hardworking tea garden workers here have played an important role in strengthening India’s economy and increasing exports.”
According to officials, the estimated cost of the new assembly complex and MLA hostel will be between Rs 284 crore and Rs 300 crore. The buildings are being designed with a blend of traditional Assamese architectural elements and modern features, keeping in mind both cultural identity and functional efficiency.
He said that this project will play an important role in decentralization of administrative activities and strengthening the institutional infrastructure in Upper Assam.
