Kolkata, October 19 (IANS). Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh has launched a scathing attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the increasing violent incidents in West Bengal.
He accused TMC of winning the elections through fear and use of force and raised serious questions on the state of democracy in the state. His statement came after the incident of attack on the convoy of BJP MP from Darjeeling Raju Bista.
Dilip Ghosh said, “Violence is increasing everywhere in West Bengal. TMC adopts the strategy of winning elections through fear and intimidation. If public representatives, MPs and MLAs cannot meet the people openly, then what is the point of democracy? If these people are not safe, then how will the common citizen participate in the elections?”
He also said that as the possibility of SIR is increasing, TMC’s tension is increasing, due to which their language and attitude is changing.
He raised the question that when people like MPs and MLAs cannot meet the public, how can the democratic process run smoothly.
Accusing the TMC government of weakening democracy, the BJP leader said that the law and order situation in the state has collapsed. TMC’s strategy is to suppress the opposition and influence the voters by creating an atmosphere of fear. It is necessary to ensure fair and peaceful elections in West Bengal.
He said that if the situation in Bengal does not improve, the faith of common citizens in the democratic process will weaken, which can be dangerous for the country.
