Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal to “enthusiastically” participate in voting for the assembly elections in their states.
Voting has begun on all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, while voting began on 152 of the 294 assembly seats in West Bengal this morning.
“As assembly elections are being held in Tamil Nadu, I call upon all voters to enthusiastically participate in this sacred duty of democracy. I especially urge the youth and women of Tamil Nadu to come out and vote in large numbers,” Modi said in a post on Twitter.
In another post, the Prime Minister said, “The first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections is being held today. I urge all citizens to participate with full force in this celebration of democracy. I especially appeal to my young friends and women of West Bengal to vote in large numbers.”
The second phase of voting in West Bengal will be held on April 29. Along with these two states, counting of votes in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry will also take place on May 4.
