Kolkata, June 20 (IANS). West Bengal Police got a major success on Saturday when Regina Bibi, wife of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jahangir Khan, who was absconding for three days, was arrested. Regina Bibi is accused of being the main conspirator of the attempted attack on Falta police station.

Police has already arrested Jahangir Khan. Now after the arrest of Regina Bibi, a case has been registered against her under various sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), 2023, Arms Act, 1959 and Explosives Act, 1884. The police will present him in the district court of South 24 Parganas.

State police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel arrested Regina Bibi from a hideout near the India-Nepal border in connection with the attack on Falta police station by TMC workers and an attempt to rescue Jahangir Khan, a state police official said. With the arrest of Regina Bibi, now a total of 26 people have been arrested in this case.

Preliminary police investigation has revealed that the attack on Falta police station was planned in a meeting held at a secret place on Monday. It is alleged that this meeting was called by Regina Bibi.

A district police official said, “It was decided in the meeting that the supporters would gather at a designated place about three kilometers away from the Falta police station. After this, they would suddenly and in an organized manner attack the police station and try to rescue Jahangir Khan.”

On Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had said that he has directed the administration to identify the properties of those involved in the attack on the police station, seize them, auction them and use the money received from the auction to compensate for the damage caused to public property.

Chief Minister Adhikari had said on Friday, “In connection with the Falta incident, cases have been registered against the attackers under various sections of the Indian Justice Code 2023, including provisions related to anti-national activities. We will not only ensure strict punishment to the attackers, but will also recover compensation for the loss by confiscating their properties.”
