Suspended Bareilly Municipal Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri alleged constitutional failure in Uttar Pradesh and urged the Central government to intervene. Stepping up his protest against the Uttar Pradesh administration, Agnihotri claimed that support for Brahmin organizations is increasing in many states and the constitutional machinery in the state is failing.
Speaking to the media during his ongoing protest in Bareilly, Agnihotri said that many organizations from six states and members of the Brahmin community are in touch with him.
“Various organizations and Brahmin communities in our six states are in touch. Many people, including elected representatives, have expressed concern that the UGC rules published in the Government of India Gazette on January 13, 2026, will be extremely harmful for the country,” he said.
Agnihotri linked the issue to the insult to Sanatan culture and Brahmin community during the Maha Kumbh Mela.
He said, “All organizations have supported this campaign against the insult to Sanatan culture, especially the insult to the Brahmin community in the Maha Kumbh Mela. We are all united and will continue the struggle for our community.”
Reiterating the allegations made earlier, Agnihotri claimed that the constitutional system in Uttar Pradesh has collapsed. “The constitutional mechanism has failed. The government is working with a particular ideology, while on the other hand there is an opposing ideology,” he said.
The suspended officers made a joint appeal to the Central Government for intervention. He said, “I urge Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah to seek an immediate report from the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and impose President’s rule here. This failed constitutional mechanism should be removed immediately.”
The protests have continued since Agnihotri resigned from his post. They allege that attempts are being made to imprison them, caste-based harassment and misuse of power at the administrative level.
He has also demanded the formation of a special investigation team to specifically probe the circumstances surrounding his suspension.
