Itanagar, May 27 (IANS). Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik on Wednesday said that the women of Arunachal Pradesh are playing a very important role in the social, economic and community life of the state. He said that women are continuously making important contribution in the development and progress of the society and their participation is very important in making the state self-reliant.
During a meeting with National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar at Lok Bhawan in Itanagar, the Governor appreciated the active role of women of Arunachal. He said that the women of the state are doing great work in many fields like agriculture, entrepreneurship, administration and social campaigns.
The Governor especially praised the success of women self-help groups. He said that these groups are playing a transformational role in improving the livelihoods of women in rural areas, increasing economic self-reliance and strengthening the society.
Many issues and challenges related to women’s safety, welfare, empowerment and socio-economic development were discussed in the meeting. The Governor said that the women of Arunachal are also actively participating in anti-drug campaigns, cleanliness campaigns, health and hygiene awareness programs.
He also said that women have long been the guardians of family values, traditions and social harmony in various tribal communities of the state. Besides, they also have a big role in preserving the traditional handloom, textile art and cultural heritage.
The Governor said that the progress of Arunachal Pradesh is directly linked to the empowerment of women. He stressed that the state can be made progressive, inclusive and self-reliant only with greater participation of women in education, administration, entrepreneurship and nation building.
He also appreciated the program “Public Hearing – National Commission for Women at your doorstep” to be organized in Itanagar on 29th May. The Governor said that such initiatives provide an important platform for women to voice their problems, seek help and be aware of their rights. Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission Chairperson Yalem Taga Burang was also present in the meeting.
