This government is based on an alliance called Meghalaya Democratic Alliance. The alliance was formed after the 2023 assembly elections. There were a total of 12 ministers in the 60 -member assembly and cannot be more than that. 8 of them have resigned.
This was done with ministers in Meghalaya before the cabinet expansion so that some new faces could be included in the cabinet. The new ministers will be sworn in at Raj Bhavan at 5 pm today. There are many reasons behind the cabinet reshuffle in Meghalaya. According to sources, this reshuffle is being done to help all the allies. So that Meghalaya will maintain the balance of everyone in the Democratic Alliance and all the sections can get its representation. NPP MLAs Vailadamiki Shayla, Sosthenese Sohatun, Braining A. Sangma and Timothy de Sir will join the cabinet. Apart from this, UDP chief Meetbah Lyngdoh and former Minister Lakhamen Rimbui are also expected to be sworn in. HSPDP MLA Methodius Dakhar will replace Shakliyar Varge in the cabinet, while BJP’s Sunbor Shullai will replace AL Heck in the cabinet.
