Bihar Elections: The stir in Bihar politics has once again intensified. The Election Commission of India has made an official announcement to hold biennial elections on 9 seats of Bihar Legislative Council and by-election on one vacant seat. After this announcement by the Election Commission, major political parties of the state have started making election strategies. These elections to be held from the assembly quota are being considered very important for Bihar politics, because many new political equations can be formed through them.
According to the schedule released by the Election Commission, the nomination process for Bihar Legislative Council elections will start from June 1, 2026. Voting will be held on June 18 from 9 am to 4 pm and after voting, counting of votes will take place on the same day and results will be declared. After the announcement of Legislative Council elections, political parties have become active in the selection of candidates. Lobbying has also started among the leaders to get tickets.
Voting is to be held on these nine seats
The nine seats of Bihar Legislative Council for which voting is to be held on June 18, include the seats of many big leaders. The members whose tenure is expiring on 28 June 2026 include Samrat Chaudhary, Dr. Kumud Verma, Prof. Ghulam Gaus, Mohd. The names of Farooq, Bhisham Sahni, Shri Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, Sanjay Prakash, Sameer Kumar Singh and Sunil Kumar Singh are included. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Minister Shri Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha had resigned from the post of Legislative Council members on 16 November 2025 after victory in the assembly elections. Strategy making has intensified between the ruling party and the opposition regarding the election of new members on all these nine seats.
By-election will be held for one seat
Apart from the nine seats of the Legislative Council, by-elections are to be held for one high-profile seat. This seat had become vacant due to the resignation of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The by-election on this seat is going to be very interesting. Political analysts believe that the results of this seat can decide the direction of future politics of Bihar.
Results of many seats almost certain
There are a total of 75 seats in Bihar Legislative Council, of which 63 are elected and 12 are nominated members. Keeping in mind the current strength in the Assembly, the results of many seats are considered almost certain. However, the strategy of political parties and selection of candidates can make the election interesting. Both NDA and Grand Alliance are preparing to field strong candidates.
