Bihar Elections: Congress national spokesperson Abhay Dubey has raised serious questions on the Election Commission regarding the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. He said that the process of SIR has been suspicious since the beginning, and the Congress will be investigated when it comes to power, so that the truth of the alleged theft and manipulation of the voters can be revealed.
Abhay Dubey said that the last voter list of Bihar has been published recently, in which 7.42 crore voters have been registered. This figure is about 6% less than 7.89 crore voters recorded on 24 June. He said that this decline gives rise to many doubts, especially when the Election Commission conducted a special intensive revision of three months in the name of identity of the intruders.
The Congress spokesperson accused the Election Commission of lack of transparency, saying that the Commission did not clarify how many people were removed from the list and for what reasons. However, it was stated by the Commission that the reason for the removal of the name was death, permanent migration and duplication. He questioned this and said that when citizenship verification was cited, how did the number of non-citizens come out?
He said that 68.6 lakh names were removed during the revision process, out of which 65 lakh names were removed in the format list (1 August), while 3.66 lakh names were removed during claims and objections. The names of 21.53 lakh new voters were added during the same period.
Dubey also expressed concern that the Election Commission did not make the proportion of women and male voters public. According to him, it appears that this time the participation of women in the list is less than that of men, which is worrisome. He also said that if the Election Commission talks about implementing this process across the country, then it should share all the figures and reasons transparently.
