Chhattisgarh News: The conflict between wildlife and villagers has once again increased in Korba district of Chhattisgarh. A group of 11 elephants created a ruckus in the Jadga range of Katghora forest range. The herd of elephants caused huge damage to the crops and property of farmers in Khadipara area of Basin sector.
According to local farmers, suddenly a group of elephants entered the fields. Elephants trampled paddy crops, maize and vegetable fields. Besides, agricultural equipment and small property kept in the fields of two farmers were also destroyed. After creating ruckus, the elephant group returned towards Jadga forest.
Forest department assessed the damage
As soon as the information was received, the Forest Department team immediately reached the spot. The team took stock of the damage and registered complaints of the affected farmers. Forest Department officials said that the process of providing compensation to both the farmers has been started. The compensation amount will be released soon on the basis of the survey report.
Concern increased due to presence of 45 elephants
At present, a total of 45 elephants are said to be present in different herds in the Jadga range. The Forest Department team is continuously monitoring them. Villagers are being advised to remain alert, especially at night. A warning has been issued not to go alone in the fields.
Range officers of the Forest Department say that elephants naturally come towards the village in search of food. This problem is increasing due to lack of water and food in the forest. We are continuously patrolling and also making the villagers aware.
This violence by elephants in the forest areas of Korba district is not new. In the last few months, elephants have damaged crops in many villages, causing anger among farmers. Local people say that the forest department should take effective steps to stop the elephants inside the forest.
