Uttarakhand News: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday conducted on-site inspection of Swala Danger Zone of Tanakpur National Highway in his assembly constituency Champawat. The movement of people was being affected due to continuous landslides in this area. The Chief Minister reached the spot and took direct stock of the landslide affected hill, the condition of debris, drainage system and the stability of the road.
During the inspection, District Magistrate Manish Kumar gave detailed information to the Chief Minister regarding the geographical location of the Swala landslide site, the amount of debris, direction of water flow, nature of land structure and availability of alternative routes.
Chief Minister Dhami directed the officials to prepare a concrete technical plan for a permanent solution in the Swala area so that traffic on this route is not disrupted in future. He said that by 2026 this route will be made completely uninterrupted and smooth.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is giving top priority to the safety of residents and travelers of the area. He directed the concerned departments to monitor the relief and restoration works in the landslide affected areas 24 hours a day.
He said that adequate machinery, JCB and manpower should always be kept ready to remove debris on the highway so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency. Additionally, alternative routes should also be kept fully operational and safe.
The Chief Minister also directed the local administration to update the people of the villages along the route from time to time and ensure availability of relief material as per requirement.
Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government is continuously working on permanent geological solutions to such sensitive sites so that the roads of the state remain smooth in every season. He said that Champawat-Tanakpur route is the lifeline of regional traffic and economy of border areas, hence it is being developed with top priority.
