Uttarakhand: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inspected two important projects—Sharda Corridor and Banbasa Land Port—which are giving a new direction to the development and connectivity of the state. The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of both the projects and gave strict instructions to the officials to complete the work on time while maintaining quality.
Rejuvenation of faith: ₹500 crore Sharda Corridor
Sharda Corridor Project has been launched to make the journey to Maa Purnagiri Dham, one of the most revered religious places of Uttarakhand, convenient and safe. Chief Minister Dhami said that this project is not just a construction work, but will bring a big change in the field of religious tourism.
Key Features of the Project:
Capacity Increase: In the first phase, costing ₹500 crore, the capacity of the corridor will increase from 2,000 to 10,000 devotees per day. This will ease crowd management during the peak pilgrimage season.
Passenger facilities: The corridor will include new pathways, rest areas, improved sanitation facilities and improved security systems for the convenience of pilgrims.
Vision: Dhami directed the officials to ensure that quality standards are maintained in the construction and it is completed within the stipulated time frame.
Promote trade and connectivity: Banbasa Land Port
Chief Minister Dhami also inspected the Banbasa Land Port Project, which is considered important for enhancing cross-border connectivity and trade between India and Nepal.
Economic Importance: This port will be equipped with modern custom, immigration and logistics facilities. This will streamline the movement of goods and passengers.
Bilateral Relations: Dhami stressed that this initiative will not only strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, but will also provide economic opportunities for the border communities.
Emphasis on balanced development: synergy between tourism and environment
Chief Minister Dhami clarified that both these projects reflect the vision of balanced development of the state government, which links religious tourism with economic development.
Revenue and Employment: Sharda Corridor will attract national and international tourists, thereby contributing significantly to Uttarakhand’s revenue and local employment.
Environmental Protection: Dhami underlined the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection during project construction. The government is ensuring that all construction materials are eco-friendly and the natural landscape of the area is preserved.
Through both these projects, Uttarakhand is strengthening its position as a leading destination for spirituality and cross-border cooperation by enhancing tourism infrastructure, regional connectivity and trade efficiency.
