Uttarakhand News: Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami released the ‘Solar Awareness Souvenir Booklet’ prepared by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) at the Chief Minister Camp Office on Thursday. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that this initiative is not just the release of a souvenir book, but a symbol of collective resolve towards building a bright, self-reliant and green future of Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister said that at present the whole world is facing climate change, energy crisis and environmental challenges. In such a time, solar energy has become not just an option but a necessity for a secure future for the coming generations. He said that under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, run under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand has made remarkable achievements, which are becoming a source of inspiration for the country. The Chief Minister said that the state has achieved its initial target of 40 thousand rooftop solar plants before the scheduled time and about 95 percent of the target of the set plants has been completed. He said that in effective implementation of PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Uttarakhand has today reached the category of top states in the country.
The Chief Minister said that in just two years from 2024 till now, the state has registered almost 10 times increase in solar energy capacity. Uttarakhand has been successful in setting up residential rooftop solar plants of approximately 290 MW capacity. He said that this is a historic achievement in the direction of building self-reliant Uttarakhand in the field of energy. Chief Minister praised the coordinated efforts of UPCL, OREDA, regional officials and all the departments and institutions associated with this campaign and said that this success is the result of the collective commitment and dedication of Team Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister said that the extensive public awareness campaign, street plays and special training programs for officers organized by the state government have created an environment of awareness about solar energy in the state. He also appreciated the cooperation and remarkable contribution of the CEEW team. The Chief Minister said that the objective of the state government is not only to set up solar plants but also to make every citizen an active participant in the clean energy revolution. He said that widespread use of solar energy will reduce the electricity expenditure of common citizens, strengthen environmental protection and provide a clean, safe and green future to the coming generations. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that in the coming times, Uttarakhand will be established as an inspiring and ideal model for the country in the field of renewable energy.
On this occasion, MLA Shri Suresh Gadiya, Principal Secretary Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Shri Vinay Shankar Pandey, CEO CEEW Dr. Arunabh Ghosh, Managing Director of Pitkul Dr. Meharban Singh Bisht, Managing Director of UPCL Shri G. S Budiyal and concerned departmental officers were present.
